Tax season can be a hectic time for your human resources and payroll department. That is why we often see an increase in email scams targeting these departments during this time.
These email phishing schemes often appear to come from a leader in your organization, making the request look legitimate. They may request a wire-transfer to an unknown account or for a list of employees’ personal information. Other scams may mimic IRS emails and ask for social security numbers, filing status, refund information and more. If something looks suspicious, look carefully at the sender’s email address. When in doubt, don’t click anything—verify that the person claiming to send the email actually sent it by checking in person or with a phone call.
